THE NACHMANI LAB

Welcome to the Nachmani lab
Our Science

Cell differentiation and the acquisition of cellular identity are fundamental processes in multicellular organisms. In the Nachmani lab, we investigate translation-based mechanisms that shape and maintain cell identity. Our research focuses on ribosomal RNA modifications as key regulators of ribosome function and drivers of cell-type-specific translation programs. We study how specialized translation contributes to cellular behavior in physiological and pathological contexts, including normal hematopoiesis, leukemia, drug sensitivity and viral infection.

We utilize state-of-the-art molecular and genomic technologies, including ribosome profiling, RNA modification sequencing, and whole-genome functional genetic screens. These approaches are combined with ex-vivo stem cell systems and in-vivo disease models, such as bone marrow transplantation, genetically engineered mouse models, and leukemia xenografts. Using this strategy we connect molecular mechanisms with functional outcomes and therapeutic potential for human disease.
